Seahawk Battalion Official Website
The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program is a high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) course interested in closing the achievement gap using a curriculum taught by retired military professionals possessing college degrees. The curriculum supports core classes including - but not limited to - History, Government, English, and Technological skills. Current events and leadership principles are primary focuses of the course. JROTC cadets are not under any obligation to join the military. Our mission is "to motivate young people to become better citizens" and our #1 goal is to have all cadets graduate from high school - recruitment is not the aim. The program focuses on developing young people and orienting them positively in preparation for life.
In the classroom, hands on activities support active learning and positive interaction. Participation outside the classroom develops teamwork, unity, self-pride, school pride, and confidence. JROTC facilitates many events and extracurricular activities (competitive teams, color guards, parades, etc) that help students accumulate community service hours towards their graduation requirement. Our priority is to help correct the mindset of being satisfied with accepting mediocrity to striving for excellence. Once achieved, success will flow into all areas of their academic studies and school environment.
A highlight of recent Battalion news was that the Seahawk Battalion received a historic 100% on their JPA unit inspection. The inspection, conducted by representatives of Cadet Command, reaffirmed the Seahawk Battalion's current Honor Unit with Distinction or "gold star" status. This distinction means that the Seahawk Battalion is rated within the top 10% of all Army JROTC units in the world. A gold star device is worn on the uniform to symbolize this distinction. An added bonus of receiving this distinction is that the school receives up to four automatic nominations to any Military Academy and JROTC Cadets have a higher selection rate to colleges and ROTC programs.
